I am also working with apple lawn to keep their site current. While I am not doing any redesign so to speak I will be updating the existing website to be more SEO compliant and keep the services he offers more congruent with the seasons. Stone House Mixes relaunch!

I recently finished up Stone House Mixes, for a client. The site features a large store, featuring wholesale and retail pricing for both. The Home page is fresh with an exciting rotating ad of her products and four cutaway boxes that feature information about her site. There are several contact forms on the site as well. One of them is done with gravity forms and is quite nice, the other three are designed to send information to her capsule and mailchimp accounts. These are her whole sale , distributer (sic) and fundraiser forms. These forms also feature a honeypot field instead of captcha for bot validation.

Whats a honeypot field? As you know when a bot fills out a form it fills every field out and doesn’t really care about the css that handles the form. With the honeypot, it sees a field that the rest of the browsing populace can’t (because it is hidden like a ninja). The form is prevalidated by javascript to check if there is a value in the field that shouldn’t have one. If there is no value, the form goes through if there is a value, the form fails to send.

Later next month I will be creating a database form for her fundraiser site that will feature a way for people to enter their fundraiser order online and submit it that way. This will be a from scratch endeavor and will take a bit of MySQL and PHP programming.

Forum has been closed

The forum has been less of a success than I originally thought, and I will have it removed until the time that I have more followers to make it worth while. I am sad to see it go, since there was a lot of good information in there about using PHP and CSS. I was hoping to develop a section where my clients could go and post their issues and have me solve them for others to see how it would be done, and since I hadn’t received any feedback from my clients (because all of their sites work the way they are supposed to) I really didn’t have enough to write about to justify having a forum in the first place. If things change, I will add one back, but for now it has been closed.

It was my first store site that allows the customer to customize any of the owner’s designs into a bracelet, anklet, or necklace. Some of the designs even feature a choice of Swarovski crystal color.

I have recently started a site for Unique Magnetic Jewelry that will involve a store and some nice little extras. The design so far is a black/ white / slate and will feature many different types of homeopathic magnetic jewelry items. I have been offered one to try out, and I can say with confidence that the difference my knee has felt is obvious. Living here in Pittsburgh the pressure changes constantly with the weather, and I have noticed that the ache that rain usually brings with it has a significant amount of the edge taken off of it.

I chose a classy red stone and hematite design.

Global Game Jam Submission for 2011

I have posted my entry into the global game jam for this last January as a post. You can take a look at it here. I had 48 hours to come up with an idea based off of “extinction”, this time included me going to work for two of the days and sleeping for 4 hours. The rest of the time I was coding and making the program. Normally there is a development team that works together on this, but unfortunately with my work schedule I couldn’t force an entire team to wait for my input. Global Game Jam 2011 submission

To Play: The cave man follows your mouse cursor. Every time the endangered animal eats its own food it stays alive longer. Every time you eat its food you get points. The next to eat slot in the top right shows what you have to eat to get the bonus points. Eat three items from the eat slot and you get the bonus points and the bonus counter is reset. If you do not eat the items and reset the bonus clock before it reaches zero you will perish. You will lose bonus time for killing off an endangered species.
